Havnelageret
Creating the future with the past
Designed whilst at my former studio ZOOT.
Historic building from the beginning of the 20th century that was used as a warehouse for goods from all over the world. The harbor warehouse was the largest concrete building in northern Europe. In the 1980s, it was converted into offices. Following a new extensive renovation, the Harbor Warehouse was officially opened by Mayor Fabian Stang in November 2008.
Conveying a modern version of the story of the Herring wholesaler Jacob Schram who, together with architect Bredo Berntsen, realized his dream of a Harbor Warehouse in Oslo. The project was popularly called "Jacob's Dream" for "such a heavenly building the city had never seen before".
Painting history
Using the research gathered by the project owner, we set about designing a series of historical vignettes, which were painted directly onto the canteen walls. We worked with Swedish artist Anna Norvell who was guided by our artwork designs.
Trompe-l'œil images inspired by the building's history
Souvenir mugs for the tenants. Norway Designs mugs with our artwork.
Wayfinding
The success of the canteen project led to a commission for wayfinding. Main directional signage in the foyer and floor signage throughout the building.
